Ararat North Primary School

Information for Parents

Parental involvement at Ararat North Primary School is welcomed and encouraged. Here are just a few of the ways parents can become involved at our school:

Working Bees at Ararat North Primary School

Working Bees

Ararat North has beautiful, extensive grounds which need constant maintenance so Working Bees are held on a regular basis. We have started to hold family barbecues in conjunction with our Working Bees and this has proved very successful. Parents can enjoy a delicious lunch and then work alongside their children on tasks such as sweeping, mulching, weeding and painting.

It sounds so simple but really is a wonderful way for everyone to develop ownership and pride in our school.

School Council at Ararat North Primary School

School Council

School Councils play a key role in Victorian government schools. The School Council supports the Principal and staff in providing the best possible educational outcomes for our students. Our Council meets at least twice per school term and has responsibilities which include reviewing Policies, Fundraising, Grounds and Maintenance and Budget approval. School Council elections are held annually and all parents have the opportunity to nominate to become a School Councillor.

Fundraising at Ararat North Primary School

Fundraising

Our school conducts a wide range of fundraising activities to raise extra money for the things we need. Our current major fundraising goal is to raise funds for a second modern playground suite for use by Learning Area 2 and 3 students. As fundraising activities arise, all parents and families can contribute in a number of ways: donating volunteer time, donating goods (e.g. cakes) and attending events.

Fortnightly Assemblies at Ararat North Primary School

Fortnightly Assemblies

Families and friends are invited to attend our school assemblies, held every second Friday (opposite Newsletter week), commencing at 2.55 p.m. Student awards are presented, school news is shared and we occasionally have a wonderful performance item from our classes.

Communication

At Ararat North Primary School we strive to keep parents and carers informed about what is happening within our school community.

Newsletters

The Ararat North Primary School Newsletter is published each fortnight and delivered to families in hard copy via the eldest child on Fridays.

You can also download the latest edition below, or browse previous editions here.

Parent Portal

Our school uses an online communication system called Xuno. Xuno provides easy access to important information for the people involved in a student's learning and well-being. This includes communication tools which make it simple for parents to access making appointments, permission slips and reporting updates.

Facebook

Our school has a regularly updated Facebook page which celebrates daily happenings at Ararat North Primary School. Some important reminders are also posted.

Before and After School

Breakfast is available for all students from 8.30a.m. from the kitchen's outdoor servery. The children are able to select from a variety of cereals, toast, fruit and juice. Cheese toasties are a special Friday treat!

Ararat North Primary School’s grounds are supervised by school staff from 8.40 a.m. until 3.25 p.m. Outside of these hours, school staff will not be available to supervise students. Before school, staff will supervise the school playground area and after school staff will supervise the school front yard.

Parent Payments

Under the Department of Education and Training’s Parent Payments Policy, Victorian government schools are required to provide transparent information to their school community on voluntary parent/carer contributions. Ararat North Primary School does not request payment for Curriculum or Other Contributions. However, there may be some 'user pays' extra-curricular items/activities for which payment is sought.

The following documents outline voluntary parent payment contributions at our school:
